The Hypothesis That We Intend To Prove Is That The Inbound Tourism Traffic ...

The hypothesis that we intend to prove is that the inbound tourism traffic from the Guangdong Province will require a significant reassessment of Hong Kong's tourism industry strategy. To aid in the achievement of this objective, the research has primarily been concentrated on four main areas: -
Providing an analysis of the significance of the Chinese tourist market within Hong Kong's own tourism strategy.
Identifying the unique characteristics that are attributable to the outbound consumer tourist located within the Guangdong Province of Mainland China.
Conducting an appraisal of the degree to which the current Hong Kong portfolio of tourist products and services satisfies the demands of the Guangdong tourist resident.
Producing an assessment of the nature of Hong Kong's tourism industry structure and the positioning policy in relation to the Chinese mainland market.
With regard to current tourist attractions identified within this study, our research has only taken into account attractions that represent sites of major importance to Hong Kong, and the Mainland Chinese tourist markets it is attempting to attract. In terms of the scope of this study, it has concentrated upon the tourism industry as it exists at the time of the study, and is anticipated to grow within the current political and economic framework. This paper does not take into account any future changes in these areas that may be imposed by the Chinese administration on the Hong Kong province, such as the potential effect of the recent anti-subversion laws. Chapter 2: Background
The Guangdong Province
Guangdong is now officially the most populated province of China, with over one hundred and ten million inhabitants including those who reside in the area for more than half the year. Because of its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, in the past this made the province popular for Chinese emigrants seeking to move to areas such as the United States and Canada although, due to the region's recent prosperity, this action is not so prevalent today. (Guangdong Statistical Yearbook, 2001).
