Trochim (2006) advises that most research projects share the same general structure He continues that the structure resembles one of an hourglass whereas the process begins with a broad area of interest on the initial problem that is being equated. In selecting the methodology, there was a choice between exploratory, descriptive and casual research (Webb, 1992, pp. 10-30). He advises that in exploratory research the problem is unstructered, whereas in both descriptive and casual research it is structured (Webb, 1992, pp. 10-30). The exploratory model was selected as it represents the method when the problem is not clearly defined. It, exploratory research, as explained by Webb (1992, pp. 10-30) represents the most useful research method when there are levels of uncertainty as well as the general lack of information, and the understanding of the problem is open to question.
