However, Even If There Is A Correlation Between Aural Dissonance And ...

However, even if there is a correlation between aural dissonance and psychological interpretation it is still at the hands of cultural representation and interpretation in terms of meaning.
The basis of this cultural reality that incorporates the meaning of consonance and dissonance can be seen over time. In terms of music and scales the basis of the concept of consonant and dissonant intervals within aural interpretation gradually changed throughout cultural history and the general consensus developed over the centuries and configured that while some successions of intervals were pleasing others were not.
With regard to music then, dissonance is the quality of sound that seems complex and unstable, and gives the aural impression to resolve to a simple and aurally conducive stable consonance. Both consonance and dissonance are words that can be applied to musical invention and scale including harmony, chords, intervals and by an extension to melody, tonality, and even rhythm and metre. There have been established important psychological and neurological phenomena which suggest that our mind has a conceptual basis for understanding the idea of dissonance. However, due to the surroundings of the subject and their appreciation of certain musical norms, the precise definition of dissonance is culturally defined. Due to the expansion and invention of music within culture, definitions and conventions according to musical usage and related to dissonance varies greatly amongst different musical styles, traditions, and cultures. However, the basic premise of dissonance and consonance have been interpreted by the artist in some throughout all musical genres and in all musical traditions that have a concept of melody, harmony and tonality that accompany them. Many artists and theorists attempted to summarise and implement a notion of dissonance within their ideas and craft throughout history and in an attempt to define certain key elements surrounding these two aural and psychological factors. For example, many musicians and composers have used essentialist notions of dissonance and resolution in their works as a way of conveying meaning and feeling that have come to be vitally important in terms of significance and have subsequently informed their musical thinking on a fundamental level.
Although subjective judgements such as unpleasant and strange are often used to explain or in many cases dismiss the sound of dissonance, on a musical level, all music with a harmonic or tonal basis generally incorporates to some degree a level of dissonance in its presentation. Often described as a build up and release of tension within the feel of the music, which can occur from the subtle to the obvious, has to some degree been held responsible for what many listeners perceive as beauty, emotion, and expressiveness in music.
