Every level of added multiple use requires an added level of concentration on providing tailored service. This may simply mean upgrading uniforms or allocating particular staff to certain event types, or, if feasible, increasing staff to address the varying client demands. (Kaatz, 2004)
Most of the challenges faced by the management and staff at unusual venues stem from the differences between the needs of conferences and their everyday routine. This difference in the nature of work coupled with the demand for high levels of service requires the staff to be able to face changing requirements in their work life. It is essential for such establishments to focus on detailed planning and on strong coordination with the conference organisers. At the time of taking a conference booking both the venue management and the conference organisers need to make a detailed list of facilities and services required, and decide upon what can be provided in house and what needs to be outsourced. The management needs to be very careful about deciding upon what they can provide and exercise transparency with the organisers. Specific tasks may need to be subcontracted and a preferred list of competent sub contractors needs to be developed for this purpose.
It is also necessary to introduce a system of obtaining detailed and regular feedback from both the organisers and delegates of each conference handled about the quality of services provided and possible areas for improvement. While some things may still go wrong, lots of things will go right with detailed planning. Feed back, on the other hand, will be crucial for continuous improvement.

Conferences have, over the course of the twentieth century, become an integral part of the knowledge society. Apart from being platforms for presentation and exchange of ideas, their growth has led to the evolution of a significant and competitive business, which benefits hotels, convention centres, unusual venues, airlines and the local economy. Recent years have seen an increase in the use of numerous unusual venues, ranging from ships, cruisers, and museums to castles and parks, for holding conferences. Unusual venues have and are becoming popular because of their unique ambience and the desire of organisers to provide a different and pleasurable experience to delegates.
Establishments, which own such premises or locations, face a number of operational challenges in providing facilities and services expected of good conference venues. These challenges arise because of the many inadequacies of these venues, (in terms of infrastructure, facilities and staff capabilities), when compared to regular and established conference venues.
