Some Of The Contextual Information Indicators, Which Can Be Integrated In ...

Some of the contextual information indicators, which can be integrated in context space, include identity, spatial information, temporal information, environmental information, social situation, resources nearby, availability of resources, physiological measurements and activity or agenda settings (Heer, Peddemors, and Lankhorst 2004). Thus, use of ID recognition, voice recognition and biometric could be adapted to this model for increasing the real time application control.
c. Context-aware application interactivity
According to Barkhuus and Dey (2003), context-aware mobile applications have three levels of interactivity: personalization, passive context-awareness and active context-awareness. Personalization refers to applications that allow the user to define his/her own settings according to his preference. Passive context-awareness refers to the sensor information updated by the applications and also set by the user, whereas active context-awareness automatically adapts application behaviour according to the sensor information. There is less user control in the latter while the personalization context-aware application allows full user freedom. The flexibility in implementing the context-aware applications allows users to react and use the applications according to the specific level of interactivity that they choose. Consequently, there is no loss of control or privacy or security (Cheverst et al 2001; Schilt et al 1994).
d. Mobile media devices
Mobile media devices are manufactured to target enterprise communication and interactivity. Most mobile application domains are becoming more flexible and contextually aware of the business-user environment to facilitate the employee-on-the-move to interact with the workplace, without having to succumb to a static location. However, context-aware mobile media are also created to incorporate detectors that gauge user behaviour, terminal and network characteristics. Moreover, context-aware mobile media devices use applications that facilitate ambient awareness and adaptation (Heer, Peddemors, and Lankhorst 2004).
e. Context-aware systems and technologies
Many of the mobile devices today already have integrated context-aware applications, which are being used actively in day-to-day communication. Instant messaging (IM), for example, is a direct interactive form of communication application, which has been customized to adjust to mobile device applications. IM facilitate users to communicate with others through an IM application that provides the information, whether the other users are online or not. Messages are delivered depending on this status. Major applications that are being used include AOL, MSN Messenger, and Yahoo! Messenger etc. In addition, Session Initiation Protocol or SIP is also being used to allow work groups to communicate on 3G mobile systems.
