To some extent, some may regard such practices as long overdue as it may be regarded as not only in the patient's best interests but also as a common courtesy to other healthcare professionals to ensure that communications relating to the patient's case are both efficient, complete and effective. In the specific case of the podiatrist and a diabetic patient, one could anticipate that it might be necessary for him to communicate with other healthcare professionals such as the GP, the dietician, the occupational therapist
