The qualitative method of research is used in this case also because of the need to ensure transparency of information and the ability to ensure that the research conducted is not only focused on the ability of the organization to increase its effectiveness in terms of performance but also in the general consensus of the application of LEAN management in a given organization.
1.6: Chapter Overview
Chapter 1: Initiation
This is the current chapter where the author sets the scene for the research and provides justification on the chosen area of research.
Chapter 2: Literature Review
This chapter presents a critical overview of the LEAN concept and its implementation in the manufacturing sector from a business perspective. The research then presents an overview on the critical nature of supply chain management in manufacturing industry and the ability of LEAN to streamline the production process and integrate the supply chain into the organization is presented to the reader. Finally the chapter presents the theories on the key factors influencing the implementation of LEAN.
Chapter 3: LEAN Implementation in Developed Countries
This chapter presents a critical research on the factors influencing the implementation of LEAN in the developed countries. The key focus of the research is on the UK and hence examples are presented from the UK manufacturing industry along with research theories on the LEAN implementation and its effects in the organizational structure of an organization a developed nation. This is followed by a critical analysis on outsourcing by the UK organizations to the Far East and the role of LEAN in the aforementioned.
Chapter 4: LEAN Implementation in Developing Nations
This chapter presents the pros and cons of implementing LEAN in companies competing in the developing nations. The focus nation in this chapter is India and hence the manufacturing sector of India is researched in this chapter. The research includes the research subsections of chapter 3 focused on Far East followed by a critical research on the macro and micro economic factors.
Chapter 5: Results and Discussion
This chapter presents a case analysis on the theories and the research conducted on the developed and developing nations. The purpose of this chapter is to deduce the results from the results to facilitate the conclusion in chapter 6.
Chapter 6: Conclusion and Recommendations
The chapter commences with the review of the objectives to ensure the consistency of the research. This is followed by the conclusion to the research conducted in this chapter. Finally the chapter presets recommendations on the implementation of LEAN in manufacturing industry and key modifications that may be required to facilitate the implementation.
