CHAPTER 1
Introduction:
The world in which one lives today is one that experiences many changes, one of which is regional shifts in population. There are different reasons for such shifts. Two of the most important ones include birthrate increases and immigration. Indeed, there are many developed countries that face this problem. While developing countries also experience birthrate increases, they do not feel the impact of immigration as much as developed countries do. With improved healthcare in most regions, life expectancy has increased. People have more chances pf living longer, which means that if women live longer, they will probably have more children. With this true in its place, it leaves one with immigration to worry about. There are some developed regions that face a massive influx of immigrants. These immigrants are usually people who are in search of better lives. Though one may witness immigration within regions that are not developed well, it can hardly compare to the shift in demographic make up now taking shape in place like the UK. In the UK, there are thousands of immigrants setting up their lives. Most of these people need to find work when they come to the UK. This is precisely where the discussion of this paper will lie because it is the impact of immigration on the UK labour market that will be looked into here. While it is assumed that immigrant workers entering the UK have an impact on the availability of jobs in the UK, it is also thought that these very immigrants are good for the economy, given that they are ready to take up jobs that are available to them.
Research Strategy:
The research strategy to assess the impact of immigrants on the UK labour market will be made as simple as possible. First, there will be an objective view taken, in which immigration is looked upon in general. There will be comparison with immigrants that work in the US, and there will also be comparison with the concept of illegal immigrants. Reviewing pertinent literature about immigrant impact on the labour market will be largely focused on to obtain a wide view of what scholars think about the situation.
