However, People In General Still Complain That There Are No Proper Employment ...

However, people in general still complain that there are no proper employment opportunities. One reason put forward for this complaint is that there are many individuals in the UK who are college dropouts. Some people drop out for reasons beyond their control no matter how well they may have performed academically. Such individuals though under qualified, believe that they are educated enough to get good positions in any professional work environment. They believe that they are certainly more educated than unskilled immigrants, and therefore, deem that they cannot take on roles that unskilled immigrant workers can fulfill. This means that such indigenous workers in the UK are caught in between. They are not willing to accept the fact that they have not completed their graduation, and that they have to settle for unskilled work. However, it is reasonable to also consider that these individuals are more educated than most unskilled immigrant workers. Perhaps there is no consideration given to these individuals, who lose heart, and do not want to take on unskilled work that now has lower wages offered to them. With regard to decreased wages being offered to unskilled workers, it seems most unfair to people whom at the very least, can read, write and communicate in English (Hartog and Zorlu, 2005, 114152).
CHAPTER 3
The UK Minimum Wage:
Employers in the UK believe that by hiring immigrant workers, they can hire them for a lower wage and do not need to train them. It is fine to understand that companies do not want to invest in training immigrant workers. However, paying immigrant workers lower wages does not seem to have a positive effect on the UK labour market. It is fair enough to hire unskilled immigrant workers for a lower wage. However, allowing employers to do such a thing creates a situation in which unskilled indigenous workers are automatically disadvantaged (Hartog and Zorlu, 2005, 114152). While indigenous workers pay taxes, they are denied a minimum wage that the government needs to ensure. Employers prefer to hire unskilled immigrant workers in contrast to hiring unskilled indigenous workers. This is something that needs to be monitored closely, especially since there is no restriction on immigrants working in the UK. It would be better to order employers to pay immigrant workers a standard wage to both indigenous as well as immigrant workers. If there are issues with the tax paying system that immigrants are usually not a part of, it is worth considering having a tax system that includes immigrant workers too. It must be said that there is a lot to consider under this notion, as tax collection from immigrant workers would mean that they automatically become eligible for receiving social services (Hartog and Zorlu, 2005, 114152).
