However, another reality reveals that the UK is actually forming a part of an exchange system. While many will not agree with such a formation, it is one that could so easily be formed in the near future. One can already see that there is a huge number of immigrants working the UK, which forms only 2% of the entire work force in the country. At the same time, individuals from the UK who do not wish to work here, may in turn seek jobs elsewhere. This would be dependent on a number of factors. Though most people would not want to leave their homeland, for the sake of work, and if they are skilled enough to live in another European Union country, they would consider going abroad. Such a situation could develop over a period of time, as companies from the UK begin to establish branches in European Union member countries (Heckley, 2005, 374384).
Another consideration in this regard is that indigenous workers from the UK could find themselves employment with UK firms that establish branches in other countries. Such an opportunity could work well for both, skilled as well as unskilled workers. There is, of course, plenty of time for this kind of arrangement to take effect, given that there are newer members joining the European Union. With more members joining the European Union, there will be new accommodation for them, and each new country will take time to settle into its relationship with other members and the UK too (Heckley, 2005, 374384).
Immigrant Workers from Outside the European Union:
In addition to the immigrant workers that belong to member countries of the European Union, there are many other types of workers here. These include people from the West Indies, South America, and Asia too. In fact, these immigrants make up a significant portion of the immigrant workforce (Heckley, 2005, 374384).
Immigrant workers from outside the European Union bring greater diversity to the UK workforce. This means that they bring different types of qualities and skills to the UK. Though the vacancies for skilled workers still exits in a significant number, by including immigrant workers from other regions, the UK has widened its reach skilled workers. If the UK manages to get a worker who is skilled for any particular trade, that individual brings along with him or her diverse knowledge and experience of that trade. With this in mind, one can assert that there is a lot to gain by hiring skilled people from different regions. As far as hiring unskilled immigrants to work in the UK, the UK does benefit from the diversity. It also helps its employers to gain from lower paid unskilled workers that they do not have to train. Yet, the problem that remains is that these types of workers tend to be in more demand than indigenous workers (Heckley, 2005, 374384).
