Previously an elective course, the finite element analysis (FEA) classusing ANSYS as its commercial softwareis now a degree requirement, reflecting the growing need of the FEA skill set for engineering graduates. Now, ANSYS is simulation driven product development which can also be utilized for construction based principles to simulate successful architectural integration of more modern building techniques. But for an initial purchase for a construction company recently desiring an effective electronic supplement to their architectural drafting, would this program be the most prudent choice.
Suppose, however, one was not planning on creating a new architectural masterpiece, and simply adding an addition to a parking garage, it would not benefit that company to have software which worked solely to improve upon modern technological marvels. Therefore, drafting programs which work in 3-D or 4-D would be most beneficial to that company. But where to begin? What is the difference and why do I need a fourth dimension?
3-D drafting is highly prevalent and very commonplace in today's drafting marketplace. It allows for the user to create plans and integrate costs and material storage into the equation. It is a highly visible program which with in depth training can cost-effectively assist a company in managing and maintaining their building plans and costs.
4-D drafting enables a diverse team of project participants to understand and comment on the project scope and corresponding schedules in a proactive and timely manner. 4-D models link 3-D models with activities from design, procurement, and construction schedules. In this manner, the professional crew for a construction company can offer input and perform evaluations of the current schedules and operations of the build. This process can be very effective in maintaining project cohesion and minimizing costs. The cost, however, does increase with superior technology.
There are many other forms of programs which can assist construction companies to maintain their cost-awareness and communication links. It is essential that the proper decision link the software to the project, evaluating all areas of necessitation. Additionally, it is essential to the project that the program create accurate, real-time (time defined) data which may be submitted to government agencies for review and approval. drawings (printouts) the contractor uses to determine what is to be build are given legal status by being made part of the contract by reference in the owner-contractor agreementthe purpose of the drawings, is to depict graphically the extent and characteristics of the work covered by the contract. A legally binding contract or plan must be adhered to by architect and project manager alike. Therefore, the accuracy of such data is absolutely paramount in preventing costly setbacks and government scrutiny.
