8). The Code for Sustainable Housing further elaborates that it's objective is ensuring a broad selection of types of housing are available to meet the needs of all members in the affordable and market housing categories (Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, 2005, p. 8). The ‘National Planning Policies' as contained in The Code for Sustainable Housing shall be further examined utilizing a SLEPT analysis, along with the ‘Building Research Environmental Assessment Method' (BREEAM) and EcoHomes environmental rating scheme to equate the barriers that the United Kingdom housing industry has to overcome to attain sustainable housing. Such also includes an analysis of current legislation as contained in The Code for Sustainable Housing and the Planning Policy Statement 3 (PPS3).

Chapter 2 SLEPT Analysis
The varied factors enacting upon the needs, influences and reasons that have led to the development of sustainability concepts are international in nature, calling into play environmental, economic, social and political facets. Raising the environmental standards of new housing to cause the housing industry to make a contribution to sustainable development targets... and effect a reduction in emissions.
The establishment of the necessary steps required to enable the housing industry to achieve heightened standards in housing construction through collaboration as a result of pooling information about innovative techniques and projects and thus reaching an assessment on best practices as a foundational base.
To enact recommendations concerning specific changes concerning home design as well as the regulatory mechanisms to achieve increased standards throughout the industry, with the target date as 2010.
