Introduction
It rides the coat-tails of multi-spectrum advances where engineering finds form within a new language of programming. The derision of technological advance versus efficient production has continued to challenge both Engineer and Programmer throughout the growth of a very important field of construction. It falls to reason that the mitigated advance of efficiency and frequency has far outweighed the superior educational and mental pre-requisites of this field. But in the field itself, is it presumptive to consider all construction magnates of common electronic sophistication? Would it not be more relevant to explore the education levels and specified training acquired for management of their information technology in order to prove that in this industry, not all minds or methods are created equal? It is imperative that evaluation of competitors and industry leaders be wrought effectively through in-depth analysis of not only the fundamental ability to process and utilize technologically advanced programs and formats, but to explore the relative employ of construction professionals of specified instruct relative to the monetary success and efficiency of the companies themselves. This symbiotic relationship of education and company growth will stand to purport an industry variance where future growth is directly proportional to the level of skill and training possessed by the construction personnel employed.
In order to pursue the distinction between efficiency and information technology integration, the field of IT must be representatively defined as it pertains to construction companies and their utilization of this field of study. Additionally, narrowing the scope of IT specificity into areas of particular interest, specifically the small to medium entities (SME's) will enable a market based evaluation representative of the key professionals in this area of industry and ideally, will present a realistic model of the preparations and education required in order to support corporate success. There are a multitude of variables, however, which complicate presentation of a more congruent definition of success in construction, and therefore, it is imperative that these factors be identified and evaluated based upon relevance. The following sections will explore definitions and integration of information technology into the construction sector, in addition to presenting uniquely stratified research which offers insight into what will be shown the necessity of technology in construction and small to medium entities.
