In a recent Green Paper (2004) the government introduced an Every Child Matters agenda, part of which concentrated upon those organisations that are responsible for children during their formative years, which included educational establishments, such as schools. The Green Paper and subsequent reports indicated the strategies that individual schools should implement in order to comply with the recommendations.
This report has been compiled following a request from the governors and school leaders of St Richard's Catholic Primary School, to provide an analysis and evaluation of the organisations existing ability to implement with the government's agenda. In addition, it is intended to make recommendations in areas where strategic changes are required to assist with this process. To facilitate this process, the current strategies and procedural developments, together with their appropriateness in enabling the school to achieve its future objectives (Preedy et al 1998, p.220) have been studied in depth.
The government Green Paper (2004), focused upon four key areas in relation to the development and life of a child, these being: -
In essence, all of these factors are an integral part of the responsibility of those who work within the educational establishment that a child attends. For example, it is important that the school ensures that the health and safety of the child is protected whilst that child is within their care and that there is equal opportunity available for their learning development, irrespective of their individual needs.
