Also, The Technological And Other Changes Taking Place In The Market Place ...

Also, the technological and other changes taking place in the market place have resulted in the market for Telnex's most profitable products contracting at an alarming rate, and threatening the financial viability of the company. As a result of this, the success of the project is now seen as crucial to the overall success of the company, and hence more resources and time will likely be assigned to the project.

Provided these extra resources are valuable to the project, and can be utilised effectively by the project managers, this extra commitment should increase the speed of progress of the project, and make it more likely to succeed (Lewis, 2007).

However, given the rapid technological changes taking place for Telnex, both within the company and within its external markets, both existing markets and new potential markets, it is possible that resources and time will be misjudged or misaligned, particularly if the Board members attempt to control the project managers to too great a degree. As a result, it is possible that the technological changes in the market will influence the company's internal politics, and thus work against the success of the project.

Further technological changes and advances in Telnex will likely come in the support areas of the business, such as IT and Finance. The increasing availability of customer software and hardware solutions to enable companies to communicate better, manage accounts and accounting data, and support all aspects of their business can be vital to such wide scale projects which potentially impact the entire company.

The project managers can use systems such as PRINCE2 and software such as Microsoft Project to better plan, control, execute and monitor the success of their projects, as well as reporting on the success of said projects to senior management (Harrison and Lock, 2004). Tools such as these can help save large amounts of time for project mangers, potentially making it easier for them to meet with staff, or liaise with the Board of Directors in person. However, care should be taken when using any automated, technological, system or solution, as these systems are only designed to support good project management practices and skilled project managers; they are not a replacement for them. (Harrison and Lock, 2004) Indeed, there are several examples of companies or managers who have attempted to use such systems to cut corners or save costs and time in the planning stage, and as a result their projects have failed to deliver to expectations (Lewis, 2007).
A further benefit to the project of these technological changes is that they facilitate communication between stakeholder groups.
